Getting Paid for Your Expertise
Whether you are a business consultant, life coach, online tutor, therapist, or freelance advisor, your time is your product. Collecting payment at the moment of booking — not after the session, not via a separate invoice — streamlines your business and protects your income. Meetario lets you create paid booking pages where guests pay upfront and receive a video meeting link automatically.
Who This Guide Is For
This guide is tailored for professionals who sell 1:1 sessions online:
- Consultants — Business strategy, marketing, IT, legal, financial advisory
- Coaches — Life coaching, career coaching, executive coaching, health coaching
- Tutors — Language tutoring, test prep, academic subjects, music lessons
- Therapists and counselors — Mental health sessions, relationship counseling
- Freelancers — Design reviews, code reviews, portfolio critiques
Step 1: Connect a Payment Provider
Go to /app/integrations and connect either Stripe or PayPal. Both work for collecting session fees. If you are unsure which to pick, our Stripe vs PayPal comparison breaks down the differences. You can also connect both and use different providers for different services.
Step 2: Create a Paid Event Type
Go to /app/event-types and create a new event type for your paid session. Configure these key settings:
- Title — Make it clear and professional. Examples: "60-Minute Business Strategy Session", "Career Coaching Call", "Spanish Tutoring (45 min)".
- Duration — Set the session length. Common choices are 30, 45, or 60 minutes.
- Location — Choose a video meeting provider. Jitsi is free and requires no account from your guest. Zoom offers recording and more features. Both generate a unique meeting link per booking.
- Payment — Enable "Require payment", set your price and currency, and select your payment provider.
- Custom fields — Add intake questions like "What would you like to discuss?" or "What is your experience level?" to prepare for the session.
Step 3: Set Your Availability
Define when you are available for paid sessions. Go to the availability settings on your event type and set your working hours for each day of the week. Meetario automatically checks your connected calendar for conflicts, so you will never double-book.
Consider setting buffer times between sessions — a 15-minute buffer gives you time to wrap up notes and prepare for the next guest.
Pricing Strategies
How you price your sessions depends on your industry, experience, and audience. Here are proven approaches:
Per-Session Pricing
The simplest model. Create one event type per session length and set a flat price:
- 30-minute intro call — $75
- 60-minute full session — $150
- 90-minute deep dive — $200
Create each as a separate event type with its own price. This lets guests choose the format that fits their needs and budget.
Free Discovery + Paid Sessions
Offer a free 15-minute discovery call as one event type (no payment required) and a paid session as another. The free call acts as a lead qualifier — you build rapport, assess fit, and then direct the guest to your paid booking link.
Tiered Pricing
Create multiple event types at different price points for different service levels:
- "Quick Check-In" — 20 min, $40
- "Standard Session" — 50 min, $120
- "VIP Deep Dive" — 90 min, $250 (includes follow-up notes and action plan)
No-Show Protection
No-shows are the biggest threat to a consultation business. When a guest does not show up for a free booking, you lose only time. When they skip a paid session, it is even more complicated — you have their money but delivered nothing, and you still lost the time slot.
Paid bookings dramatically reduce no-shows because financial commitment creates accountability. Our guide on how paid bookings reduce no-shows covers the data and tactics in detail. Key strategies:
- Require full payment at booking time — This is the single most effective no-show prevention measure.
- Set a clear cancellation policy — State it in the event type description. Example: "Cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice are non-refundable."
- Enable email reminders — Meetario sends automatic reminders before the session.
- Add notification channels — Send reminders via Telegram or Slack to catch guests on the platforms they check most.
The Guest Experience
Here is what your client sees when they book a paid consultation:
- They visit your booking page and see your available session types with prices clearly displayed.
- They select a session type and pick an available time slot.
- They fill in their contact details and any intake questions you have set up.
- They click "Pay & Book" and complete payment through Stripe or PayPal.
- They receive a confirmation email with the session date, time, video meeting link, and payment receipt.
- Before the session, they receive automatic reminder emails.
The entire process takes under two minutes. No account creation required from the guest.
Combining Video and Payment
The most powerful setup for online consultations combines payment collection with automatic video meeting creation:
- Jitsi — Completely free, no download, no account needed. Works in any browser. Ideal for coaches and tutors who want zero friction for guests. See our Jitsi setup guide.
- Zoom — Professional features like recording, waiting rooms, and breakout rooms. Better for therapists and business consultants who need recordings. See our Zoom integration guide.
When a guest completes a paid booking, Meetario automatically creates the video meeting and includes the join link in all confirmation emails and calendar events.
After the Session
After delivering your consultation or coaching session:
- The payment is already collected — no invoicing needed.
- Check your payment dashboard (Stripe or PayPal) for the transaction record.
- If you need to issue a refund for any reason, see our guide on managing refunds and cancellations.
- Follow up with the guest and direct them to your booking page for their next session.
Scaling Your Practice
As your consultation practice grows, Meetario grows with you:
- Multiple event types — Offer different session lengths, topics, and price points from a single booking page.
- Team scheduling — If you bring on associates or junior consultants, use round-robin scheduling to distribute bookings across your team.
- Embed on your website — Embed your booking calendar directly on your professional website for a seamless client experience.
